When To Call 911

Emergencies can be frightening situations. Sometimes it is difficult to think clearly and decide the best course of action. When trying to decide whether to call an ambulance or take the victim to the hospital yourself, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Is the person's condition life-threatening?
  • Could the person's condition worsen and become life-threatening on the way to the hospital?
  • Could moving the person require the expertise or equipment of paramedics or emergency medical technicians?
  • Would distance or traffic conditions cause a delay in getting the victim to the hospital?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, or are unsure, it would be best to call an ambulance by calling 9-1-1.
